Asylum Seeker Advocacy Program
Forced migrants come to the US in search of safety from persecution, torture, and sometimes death. But once here, they face many new challenges, as they navigate a new culture and language, and an increasingly complex immigration system.AWE provides trauma-informed, comprehensive case management services to help asylum seekers and other forced migrants access the resources and support they need to be safe, stable, and self-sufficient.Our services include:

  • Help accessing mental health and medical care

  • Assistance finding emergency, transitional, and long-term housing

  • Emergency financial assistance

  • Assistance accessing employment and professional trainings

  • Help navigating the immigration system

Benefits and Food Security
AWE helps low-income families and individuals access vital food benefits as they work towards self-sufficiency. Our benefits program provides Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility screenings, directly assists people with completing the SNAP applications, and tackles barriers to food access and security through outreach, advocacy, and education. Community Connection

 

CMP provides a range of classes, workshops, and events to support forced Tigrayan and Horn African migrants on their path to integration and self-sufficiency within their new community. Our services include:

  • ESL, job readiness, and financial literacy trainings

  • Health and wellness, computer, parenting, and cultural orientation classes

  • Community mentor program

  • Client leadership program

  • Client led classes and activities

  • Partnerships with community organizations and dedicated volunteers

  • Community gardening

  • Cooking classes and community meals

  • Orientations to public services including libraries and the public transit system
