Resettlement Support Services
UPKY's Resettlement Support Services (RSS) is a groundbreaking initiative designed to provide a safe haven and support for Chashah-Tegaru young adults aged 17-25 who are seeking to escape the dangers of illegal immigration from Ethiopia. Our mission is to establish a thriving community in North America that serves as a
place of refuge and empowerment for these young individuals.
Recognizing that over 250,000 people illegally migrate from Ethiopia each year, UPKY is committed to providing Chashah-Tegaru youth with the skills and resources they need to safely resettle.
Our two-pronged approach offers both pre-planning support and hands-on assistance once they arrive in North America.
Pre-Planning Support:
-
Resettlement Planning Training: RSS offers comprehensive training programs that equip Chashah-Tegaru youth with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex process of immigration. Our courses cover topics such as understanding legal immigration pathways, gathering required documentation, and preparing for the cultural and social aspects of resettlement.
-
Life Skills Development: We provide workshops and resources that focus on developing essential life skills, such as financial management, communication, and problem-solving. These skills are crucial for young adults to adapt and thrive in their new environment.
-
Mental Health Support: Recognizing the emotional challenges and trauma that many young migrants face, RSS offers mental health support services, including counseling and support groups, to help individuals build resilience and cope with the stresses of resettlement.
Hands-On Support in North America:
-
Community Building: Upon arrival in North America, Chashah-Tegaru youth are welcomed into our supportive UPKY community. We foster a sense of belonging and connection by organizing community events, cultural activities, and networking opportunities.
-
Housing and Basic Needs: RSS assists newcomers in securing safe and affordable housing within the UPKY community. We also provide guidance on accessing essential services, such as healthcare and education.
-
Skills Training and Employment Support: Our community offers ongoing skills training programs that are tailored to the local job market, helping Chashah-Tegaru youth acquire the necessary qualifications and experience to secure meaningful employment. We also partner with local businesses and organizations to create job opportunities for our community members.
-
Cultural Preservation: UPKY recognizes the importance of maintaining a strong connection to one's cultural heritage. We encourage the preservation and celebration of Chashah-Tegaru culture through language classes, traditional events, and the promotion of cultural exchange within the community.
By providing both pre-planning support and hands-on assistance in America UPKY's Resettlement Support Services aims to create a safe and nurturing environment where Chashah-Tegaru young adults can thrive and build a brighter future. Our goal is to empower these youth with the tools and resources they need to successfully resettle, while also fostering a strong sense of community and cultural identity.
